GCSE Results Day
BackSandwich Technology School is delighted with the GCSE results that their Yr11 students have achieved. Despite the National predictions of lower grades, students at the school achieved more grade 9s in full examinations than ever before – a 71% increase on last year and 2019. 12 subjects have also improved upon their 2019 results, showing that the school has bucked the national trend. Students matched or eclipsed the cohort of 2019 in many academic or Ebacc subjects including English language, Maths, History, Geography and Spanish. Just under 50% of the year group achieved a grade 5 in English and/or Maths, and 10% of the grades achieved in English were grades 7 – 9 (old grade A or better).
Tracey Savage, Headteacher, said “The students have done very well indeed. This year group are the first group who have not received any special dispensation due to the pandemic, despite the fact that their education was, of course, interrupted. They have responded to this challenge magnificently and I am full of respect for their application and success.’
There were some high achievers who deserve a special mention. Chelsea Goldman achieved 4 grade 9s, 2 grade 7s, and 3 grade 6s. Zachary Hopkins achieved 2 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 4 grade 7s and 2 grade 6s. Reanna Hickie achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, four grade 7s and one grade 6. Alice Fright achieved two grade 9s, one grade 8, two grades 6s, two grade 5s and two grade 4s. Amber Webb achieved four grade 8s, four grade 7s, and three grades 6s. STS is very pleased to note that four out of these 5 students are choosing to stay on in their sixth form to study A Levels.
Alan Cadby, the Head of Year 11, could not be more pleased. He commented “I am so proud of this year group – it has been a real pleasure working with them and it is wonderful to see their hard work produce such fantastic results.”
