On Wednesday evening eleven of our Year 12 students went along with their teachers to attend the Hustings at CCCU,  Mr Stevenson spoke of the importance of our students understanding the values of democracy “I often talk to my Criminology students about the importance of civil society and how people of good conscience can have different points of view whilst maintaining an atmosphere of mutual respect. I firmly believe that they got to see this in action last night.”

The students were keen to get involved and Dr Susan Kenyon of CCCU spoke very highly of them “…your students showcased this themselves.  They are a real credit to you.  We were impressed by their ability to work together with other schools and each other in the workshop and to listen to two hours of political debate.  They showed respect for different perspectives and understanding of the need to listen to others, even if you don't agree with them.

We were also impressed by their engagement and enthusiasm.  It isn't easy to be confident in a new place, with new people, asking you to perform a new task in very little time!  But they threw themselves into the task and communicated their needs so well.  They were able to quickly identify something that affects them/their community, that they want to change, which shows critical thinking and awareness of their world.”

Well done to the students that attended, we are very proud of their efforts.

With thanks to the Politics and International Relations team @cccu
